The U.S. Department of Justice funded a series of three comprehensive national surveys called the National Survey of Children’s Exposure to Violence (NatSCEV) in 2008, 2012, and 2014. The survey has not been repeated since 2014, so it is the most recent national data of its kind.
Overall, studies estimate that as many as 71% of all children are exposed to a potentially traumatic event by the age of 17.
